The ingredients in the Kaloidon line for scar prevention and treatment?
The Kaloidon line is distinguished by the use of safe, clinically tested ingredients selected to support scar healing and improve scar appearance and function. Each formulation combines high-quality active ingredients that help support hydration, elasticity and inflammation control, ensuring reliable and effective solutions for every type of scar.
Learn how the key ingredients in Kaloidon products work in synergy to support an optimal scar healing process.
ALLIUM CEPA
The extract that makes the difference
Allium cepa extract, commonly known as onion extract, is present in all formulations of the Kaloidon line. Its use in treating scars has deep historical roots and solid scientific evidence.
Scientific benefits
Modern scientific research has explored the biochemical mechanisms underlying the effectiveness of Allium cepa extract in treating scars. Numerous studies identify Quercetin as the main active ingredient in onion extract.
Quercetin plays a key role in reducing inflammation and modulating the inflammatory response.
Hypertrophic scars develop when the tissue-healing process is impaired, leading to overactivation of fibroblasts and, consequently, excessive collagen production. This phenomenon is often caused by prolonged inflammation of scar tissue.
The extract of Allium cepa (Onion) extract with a high content of Quercetin and its main glycosides is one of the key features underpinning the quality of the Kaloidon line.
Kaloidon uses an onion extract with a concentration of Quercetin and glycosides greater than 10%, promoting an effective action in regulating the healing process and reducing itching and redness of the tissue in formation.
Onions have been valued for their therapeutic properties since ancient times, so much so that the Egyptians considered them a symbol of eternal life for their shape and structure. In more recent times, they have been used in phytotherapy to strengthen the immune system, reduce inflammation and improve blood circulation. Onion decoction compresses were common used to treat skin infections, while onion juice with honey was used to relieve coughs and colds.
HYALURONIC ACID AND CHONDROITIN SULPHATE
Hydration and elasticity
Present in all Kaloidon formulations, these glycosaminoglycans are essential components of the extracellular matrix and play a key role in scar remodelling.
- Hyaluronic acid: contributes to the hydration and elasticity of the skin, facilitating the proliferation of fibroblasts, cells essential for tissue regeneration. In addition, its ability to help maintain moisture in the wound area, promoting an optimal healing environment.
- Chondroitin sulphate: It is known for its anti-inflammatory properties, which help preserve the integrity of scar tissue and promote better scar remodelling.
ALLANTOIN
Skin relief and regeneration
Present in all formulations of the Kaloidon line, allantoin is an active ingredient widely used in dermatology for its soothing, moisturising and regenerating properties.
As explained above (link al disegno sopra), unsightly or hypertrophic scars often result from inflammatory processes that persist too long, leading to persistent, bothersome itching. Allantoin helps effectively soothe itching associated with scar inflammation. Its moisturising action is also essential for preventing dryness and skin tension, which can compromise the appearance of the scar.
PULLULANO
The "plant-based silicone" that protects scars
Available in both Kaloidon Gel sizes, Pullulan is a natural polysaccharide also known as “plant-based silicone”. It is obtained from the fermentation of the fungus Aureobasidium pullulans and is distinguished by its extraordinary film-forming properties: it forms a thin, flexible, and breathable film on the skin’s surface. This film protects the scar from external aggressors (such as bacteria and irritants) and reduces water loss, helping maintain optimal hydration.
Proper hydration is essential to promote scar tissue remodelling, as it improves elasticity and prevents unwanted stiffness or thickening. Thanks to its combination of film-forming, protective, and moisturising effects, pullulan is a natural and innovative alternative to the silicones traditionally used to treat scars. In addition, pullulan is highly biocompatible, ideal for even the most sensitive skin.
In delicate situations, such as the healing of a scar, when the skin is more vulnerable to external aggressors, pullulan ensures safety and effectiveness, supporting a balanced, protected healing process.
POLYURETHANE
The innovative support for Kaloidon Patches
Used as the backing material in Kaloidon Patches, polyurethane is an innovative polymeric material known for its excellent skin compatibility, making it suitable for even the most sensitive skin. Due to its distinctive features, it is an effective solution for improving the appearance of scars and supporting optimal healing.
Polyurethane patches are particularly suitable both in the prevention phase for scars at risk of becoming raised or hypertrophic, and in the treatment phase for older, unsightly, hypertrophic, or keloid scars to reduce their thickness, soften them, and help them blend more naturally with the surrounding skin.
The polyurethane patch’s ability to exert gentle yet effective pressure on the scar helps regulate collagen production, preventing excessive buildup that could compromise the skin’s appearance and function.
A further advantage of polyurethane is its breathability: this material creates a protective barrier that allows the controlled passage of oxygen and moisture, keeping the scar hydrated and promoting an ideal environment for tissue remodelling.Polyurethane patches are highly flexible and adapt easily to different body areas, ensuring comfort and practicality even in the most mobile areas. Their excellent adhesion ensures a stable seal, while the material’s transparency makes them discreet and suitable for use even in visible areas, such as the face.
TITANIUM DIOXIDE
To protect sun-exposed scars
In the formulation of Kaloidon TiO2 cream, titanium dioxide is a very useful natural mineral known for its physical UV-filtering properties, providing skin protection, especially for extremely delicate scars.
Its ability to effectively shield against ultraviolet radiation (UVA and UVB) makes this ingredient essential for preventing scar darkening and limiting the pro-inflammatory effects of sunlight.
As a physical sunscreen, titanium dioxide is not absorbed by the skin but remains on the skin’s surface to shield against UV rays. This makes it highly safe and well-tolerated, even by sensitive skin or in delicate conditions, such as a healing scar. In addition, unlike some chemical sunscreens, which take time to activate, titanium dioxide providing immediate, reliable protection, ensuring quick, reliable effectiveness.
