ALLIUM CEPA
The extract that makes the difference
Allium cepa extract, commonly known as onion extract, is present in all formulations of the Kaloidon line. Its use in treating scars has deep historical roots and solid scientific evidence.
Scientific benefits
Modern scientific research has explored the biochemical mechanisms underlying the effectiveness of Allium cepa extract in treating scars. Numerous studies identify Quercetin as the main active ingredient in onion extract.
Quercetin plays a key role in reducing inflammation and modulating the inflammatory response.
Hypertrophic scars develop when the tissue-healing process is impaired, leading to overactivation of fibroblasts and, consequently, excessive collagen production. This phenomenon is often caused by prolonged inflammation of scar tissue.
The extract of Allium cepa (Onion) extract with a high content of Quercetin and its main glycosides is one of the key features underpinning the quality of the Kaloidon line.
Kaloidon uses an onion extract with a concentration of Quercetin and glycosides greater than 10%, promoting an effective action in regulating the healing process and reducing itching and redness of the tissue in formation.

PULLULANO

Available in both Kaloidon Gel sizes, Pullulan is a natural polysaccharide also known as “plant-based silicone”. It is obtained from the fermentation of the fungus Aureobasidium pullulans and is distinguished by its extraordinary film-forming properties: it forms a thin, flexible, and breathable film on the skin’s surface. This film protects the scar from external aggressors (such as bacteria and irritants) and reduces water loss, helping maintain optimal hydration.
Proper hydration is essential to promote scar tissue remodelling, as it improves elasticity and prevents unwanted stiffness or thickening. Thanks to its combination of film-forming, protective, and moisturising effects, pullulan is a natural and innovative alternative to the silicones traditionally used to treat scars. Polyurethane patches are particularly suitable both in the prevention phase for scars at risk of becoming raised or hypertrophic, and in the treatment phase for older, unsightly, hypertrophic, or keloid scars to reduce their thickness, soften them, and help them blend more naturally with the surrounding skin.
